PE
At Waingroves Primary School, our PE curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to develop a lifelong love for physical activity, sport, and healthy lifestyles. We aim to provide high-quality physical education that builds confidence, resilience, and teamwork while promoting physical and mental well-being. Through our affiliation with the Amber Valley School Sports Partnership (AVSSP), we offer a diverse range of sporting opportunities, competitions, and coaching to ensure all children are active and engaged. Our aspiration is that every pupil leaves primary school with the skills and confidence to participate in a variety of sports and activities, including swimming proficiency.
Our PE curriculum is broad, balanced, and inclusive, ensuring all pupils have access to high-quality teaching and varied sporting experiences. Key elements include:
- Specialist Coaching: We benefit from an AVSSP coach, who delivers high-quality PE lessons and supports staff in delivering engaging sessions.
- Competitions and Events: Pupils have opportunities to participate in local competitions, allowing them to apply their skills in a competitive environment and celebrate sporting success.
- Sporting Celebrations: We recognise and celebrate sporting achievements in assemblies, fostering a culture of pride and motivation in physical activity.
- Enrichment Through Sports Funding: Our sports premium funding allows us to offer specialist sporting events such as ‘Tough Runner,’ ‘Bikeability,’ and ‘Women’s World Cup’ days, ensuring pupils experience a variety of physical challenges and activities.
- Swimming Proficiency: It is our aspiration that all pupils leave primary school able to swim confidently, recognising the importance of water safety and lifelong fitness.
Our commitment to high-quality PE ensures that pupils leave primary school with a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity. We measure success through:
- Participation and Enjoyment: Increased engagement in physical activity and enthusiasm for sport.
- Skill Development: Pupils acquire a wide range of fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and resilience.
- Competition and Achievement: Success in school competitions and external events.
- Swimming Proficiency: High levels of swimming confidence among pupils upon leaving school.
