About the Governors
Stephen Boyle
I moved to the area in 2016 and I have been a member of the Governing Body at Waingroves Primary School for 5 years, initially as a parent Governor. I wanted to be involved in, and understand the many challenges of running a school at the heart of it’s community and how the school serves its pupils and their families.
My work background is varied within production, wholesale and logistics across all functions related to the running of a business.
I'm proud to serve as a Governor at Waingroves Primary School, helping wherever possible. It’s both a challenging and incredibly rewarding role, and I would recommend being involved to anyone wishing to better understand how a school works to provide the very best learning environment it can for all children.
Karen Hall
I am a busy, full time working parent with strong family links to Waingroves and happy memories playing in the woods as a child.
I have been Chair and Co-Chair at Waingroves for 8 years and enjoy working in partnership with The Embark Federation.
In my spare time I love camping with our friends, walking our Boxer dog Henry and attending music festivals.
David Seckington
My name is David Seckington. I am Managing Director for a Derbyshire plastics reprocessing and manufacturing business, of which I part own. I have experience in finance control, business management, policy creation and health and safety, to name a few.
Prior to owning my own business, I worked with the Ministry of Justice overseeing prisoner movements across the UK.
I became a Governor at Waingroves after moving to the area with my family in 2021 as I wanted to be able to be involved in helping to improve the education experience for, not only my own children, but for those in the community too, and gain a greater understanding of what is required to be able to provide a top quality education.
Richard Smith
Hi, my name is Richard Smith. I am currently working in corporate property for the Local Authority on the management of assets. I have been a Governor at Waingroves Primary School since 1998. I am actively involved with the Village Show, Community Centre, and Drama Group, and so provide a link between the school and the local community of Waingroves.
Sarah Somerset
I am passionate about developing the education system and future generations. Early years play a critical role in shaping the lives and experiences of our children both socially and academically.
As a parent I understand the concerns and considerations we all have about different aspects of our children’s education. My work life equips me with a unique skill set which can help to provide a unique insight into current education research and to facilitate development of the school along with the EMBARK Federation.
I consider this role a privilege and look forward to working with all involved with the school over the coming years.
Structure of our Governing Body
Each governor serves a four year term of office and can be re-elected for up to 3 consecutive terms. The quorum for a meeting of the Governing Body is 50% of the total number of governors (rounded up to a whole number) at the date of the meeting.
The Governing Body is made up of elected members of the community; these are voted in by the Governing Body. Parent governors are nominated and votes are taken from parents. Staff governors are nominated and votes are taken from staff.
Please see the table above for details of how our Governing Body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each governor.
