Waingroves Primary School

Think. Do. Achieve

Welcome to our class page!

Year 6 are taught by Mr Knowles and supported by Mrs Davies and Mrs English.

With an eye on the future and six years of Waingroves Primary School wisdom behind us, we are in the most exciting time in our primary school lives!

Here is an overview of our exciting year:

Our Year 6 topics are led by exciting questions, which will prompt deep and meaningful learning across the National Curriculum. They are:

Why Did We Go To War in 1939?

What Would a Journey through the Human Body Look Like?

Why Is the Amazon So Important?

Have We Always Looked Like This?

Were The Greeks Really Glorious?

What Can Be Found in a House Of Wisdom?

Ukulele (So Far)

We have had a blast so far learning to play the Ukulele as part of our music curriculum. We have learned several chords, and our teachers (Becky and Becky) say we have come along very quickly!

Here's Looking At You, Kids!

For our art week, we have explored the work of several artists who focus on self-sportraits, as well as artwork involving the use of light and shadow. We then created images of ourselves with affected lighting, and from these we drew self-portraits in monochrome using a range of pencils!

Feel The Beat!

As part of our science topic exploring body systems, we conducted an experiment to explore how the duration of exercise affected the BPM of our candidates. We even explored the effects on a variety of children of different heights.

Right to the Heart of It!

Today we looked at a real ox heart! We have been studying the human heart and its features as part of our body systems topic. It was amazing to explore the similarities between the human heart and the ox heart we poked and prodded!

Bread!

Today we have made bread as part of our learning in DT. Our focus was to create a yeast-based product. We used olive oil, thyme and rosemary to add some flair to our bread!
